What is Illegal Dumping?

Illegal dumping is when someone leaves garbage in a place other than their own premises or in a landfill where it belongs.

For example...

  • in the woods
  • on a deserted road
  • at a public waste station
  • at a private garbage box other than their own

Illegal dumping is AGAINST THE LAW and doing so could result in costly fines and restitution costs. If you are caught illegally dumping, the agencies that could impose fines include NS Environment, NS Department of Natural Resources, and the Municipality of the District of Chester.

If you know of an illegal dump within the Municipality of the District of Chester, please report it through email or by calling our By-law Enforcement Officer through the Planning Department at (902) 275-2599.
